Srinagar, Feb 24: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has nominated Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and nine others across India as ambassadors in the fight against obesity.
PM Modi posted this on his official ‘X’ handle Monday morning.
“Collectively, let us make India fitter and healthier,” he posted with the hashtag ‘fight obesity’.
The announcement was made in his February 23 ‘Mann ki Baat’.
The PM announced, “I would like to nominate the following people to help strengthen the fight against obesity and spread awareness on reducing edible oil consumption in food.”
Apart from CM Omar, the other nominees include prominent industrialist Anand Mahindra, politician Dinesh Lal Yadav (Nirahua), Olympic medalists Manu Bhaker and Mirabai Chanu, actors Mohanlal and R Madhavan, singer Shreya Ghoshal, philanthropist and Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murthy, and Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani.
The 54-year-old J&K CM is known for his fitness regime, running, and diet consciousness.
He recently participated in the Kashmir Half Marathon and completed the 21-km run, much to the awe of fitness fans. Each nominee of PM Modi has been encouraged to nominate 10 more people to make a difference in the lives of people across India, whose health is ravaged by rampant obesity and its effects.
