The Canadian men’s roster has been unveiled for the 2025 HSBC SVNS Vancouver and it includes a pair of players with ties to Kelowna.
Kelowna native Rhys James and Kyle Tremblay of White Rock are two of the 16 players named to the roster that was announced this morning.
James and Tremblay both played for the UBC Okanagan Heat and Kelowna Crows rugby programs, but now play for the Vancouver Island-based Pacific Pride.
Also known as the Canada Sevens, the HSBC SVNS Vancouver is an annual rugby sevens tournament held at BC Place in March.
This year will be the 10th edition of the tournament in Vancouver and it’s become a beloved part of the city’s annual event calendar.

This year’s event will kick off on Friday, Feb. 21, and run through Sunday, Feb. 23.
Unfortunately, the Canadian men’s team did not qualify for the main tournament this year, but will be involved in an invitational round robin alongside Japan and Trinidad and Tobago.
A total of six matches between the three countries are integrated into the schedule on Friday and Saturday.
According to Rugby Canada, the event will be used as part of Canada’s Men’s Sevens Team’s final roster selection for the first stops of the World Rugby HSBC Sevens Challenger.
“Granted this is not the format we aimed to be in at Vancouver Sevens, any chance our players have to play in front of a home crowd, in front of family and friends, is such an incredible opportunity and one we could not pass up,” said Sean White, head coach of Canada’s Men’s Sevens Team.
“It will show our players who haven’t experienced Vancouver a glimpse of what we are working towards and it will remind our players who have experienced Vancouver Sevens just how much these moments mean on home soil.”
Following this weekend’s event in Vancouver, Canada’s Men’s Sevens Team will be heading to South Africa and Poland for World Rugby HSBC Sevens Challenger tournaments in March and April.
