Rematches are on the schedule Wednesday for some of the Orange County boys soccer teams that have reached the quarterfinals round of the CIF Southern Section playoffs.
Edison and Canyon play each other in a CIF-SS Division 2 quarterfinal at El Modena High at 6 p.m. Canyon beat Edison 2-0 on Dec. 6.
Among the top players for Canyon (13-6-3) are senior forward Luke Ward, junior center midfielder Trevor Ray, junior center midfielder RJ Grimm and junior Karan Shingre.
Canyon coach Billy Higuera’s keys to another Canyon win over Edison: “We need to be effective in our defensive transitions, challenge for the long balls in the air, and work hard to win the second ball. If we do that and our offense finishes our chances, then we will win.”
Edison (13-4-1) beat Eastside 1-0 in the first round of the playoffs and Moorpark 4-1 in the second round.
Edison coach Charlie Breneman hopes the Chargers will play Wednesday with the same enthusiasm displayed when they beat Moorpark on Saturday.
“We need to bring the same energy and commitment we had in the second round to be successful in the quarterfinals,” Breneman said.
