Before UConn walked into Colonial Life Arena on Sunday and handed South Carolina its first home loss in more than four years, the Huskies were seen as merely one of a handful of teams potentially capable of dethroning the Gamecocks as national champions. Whether they would be the ones to do it remained to be seen.
After beating South Carolina 87-58, UConn is no longer just one of several favorites behind the Gamecocks. UConn is the new favorite, moving from +500 to +200 at BetMGM and bumping South Carolina to second at +300.

Connecticut +200 South Carolina +300 UCLA +450 Notre Dame +500 USC +600UConn’s national title odds earlier in the week were tied with Notre Dame for third-best, behind South Carolina and UCLA and just barely ahead of USC. Had the score been closer, those odds may not have moved much, if at all, but a 29-point win for the road team was hard to ignore.
UConn was a 6.5-point underdog and rolled in a way not many teams have against South Carolina in the Dawn Staley era. The loss was South Carolina’s first at home since Dec. 3, 2020, snapping the fourth-longest home winning streak in women’s Div. I history at 71 games.
