MOVIEGOERS have a final few days to cash in on a $9million ticket fee settlement.
There are four criteria people must meet in order to get the cash.
Ticketing company Fandango has agreed to pay the millions to resolve claims that it failed to fully disclose feeds that applied to movie tickets.
The payout will benefit anyone who paid a “convenience” fee whilst buying electronic tickets to any movie in any theatre in New York state through Fandango.
The purchase could have been made through the company’s website, mobile app or any other online platform.
Crucially, the tickets must have been bought between August 29, 2022 and March 11, 2024.
The class action case accuses Fandango of violating New York’s Arts and Cultural Affairs law.
The plaintiffs say they were misled by the ticket broker’s failure to properly disclose the fees – and ended up paying more than expected.
Fandango has not admitted any wrongdoing in relation to the alleged violation – instead choosing the settle with a one-off sum of money.
Under the terms, class members with a valid claim can choose to receive either a $5 cash payment, or a $10 voucher for Fandango at Home.
These vouchers can be used to rent or purchase movies and TV shows from the company’s platform.
The deadline to exclude yourself or object to the case is January 28.
And the final approval hearing is scheduled for February 27.
The key date for people wanting to make a claim is March 31 – the deadline for forms to be submitted.
Meanwhile, Americans can also benefit from a £2.67billion settlement being paid out by Blue Cross Blue Shield.
The health insurance organization has agreed to pay out $333 to around six million Americans.
The Blue Cross Blue Shield Association is a federation of independent health insurance companies in the US.
The association is currently facing legal challenges due to allegations of anti-competitive practices.
And hundreds more people are eligible for a chunk of a multi-million dollar payout after being impacted by a data breach.
It comes after a class action lawsuit was filed against an accounting and consultancy firm based in Maine, accusing it of failing to adequately protect personal information from hackers.
Berry, Dunn, McNeil & Parker and Reliable Networks, an IT service provider contracted with Berry Dunn, are accused of failing customers in a data breach on or around September 14, 2023.
In agreeing to settle the dispute with a $7.25 million payout, the companies have not admitted to any wrongdoing.
