Stray ballpark note from Ken Rosenthal in his latest, perhaps yielding a grateful Red Sox org:
“One potential negative for Bregman if he chooses the Cubs or Detroit Tigers: Chicago’s Wrigley Field has been the third-most difficult park for right-handed hitters the past three seasons and Detroit’s Comerica Park the eighth-most difficult, according to Statcast.
Boston’s Fenway Park has been fourth-best for right-handed hitters, Toronto’s Rogers Centre seventh-best, Houston’s Daikin Park 14th-best. Perhaps Bregman is only thinking about getting top dollar. But his choice of parks could have an impact on his future production and career legacy.”
Wrigley, incidentally, has just kinda been rough on all hitters for the last few years (especially 2023 and 2024), which has less to do with the ballpark layout and more to do with the prevailing wind patterns. Just kinda how it played out, and we know full well that it could flip completely in 2025.
Speaking of Wrigley Field and the weather, I thought this was some very good context for just how harmful (to offense) the wind has been at Wrigley Field the last couple years:

— Mike Petriello (@mikepetriello.bsky.social) 2025-02-07T13:54:03.091ZThere’s so much to enjoy(?) in that piece, including the fun(?) fact that the two most Win-Probability-Changing wind impacts came against the Cubs in 2024: a would’ve-been walk-off homer for Cody Bellinger that the wind killed in May, and a shouldn’t’ve-been game-winning homer for Thairo Estrada that the wind helped in June. If those two games go the other way, hey, who knows whether things shake out a little differently the rest of the season. (Probably not. But you never know!)
Oh, and since you’re wondering, yes, that one Patrick Wisdom fly out comes in for a prominent mention in the article, and it WAS one of the biggest wind-impacted balls of the last two years. It’s just that it wasn’t quite as high on the Win-Probability-Changing list.
That is all to say, the winds at Wrigley Field are both strong and unpredictable. Maybe that plays a part in a free agent like Alex Bregman’s decision, maybe it doesn’t. Maybe it doesn’t matter, because the Cubs might not be going hard after him right now anyway. I just thought it fun to share the wind impacts from 2023-24, and the Rosenthal bit reminded me.
