— NFL (@NFL) February 10, 2025Hurts edged out a couple of teammates on Philly’s defense who had standout performances. Defensive lineman Josh Sweat led the way up front as he collected 2.5 sacks. Cornerback Cooper DeJean made arguably the biggest play of the day when he returned a Patrick Mahomes interception for a touchdown in the first half to make it 17-0.
Hurts was brilliant in leading the Eagles’ offense against a respected Chiefs defense. He completed 17-of-22 passes for 2 touchdowns and 1 interception in the win. Hurts was also excellent on the ground as he rushed for 72 yards and 1 touchdown on 11 carries.
Hurts entered the NFL after spending his final collegiate season at Oklahoma, but he also spent multiple years in the SEC as Alabama’s starting quarterback. While he didn’t get drafted out of Alabama, Hurts is the first former Crimson Tide quarterback to win Super Bowl MVP since Joe Namath. Hurts is also the first-ever player produced by Oklahoma to take home Super Bowl MVP honors.
