Grosse Pointe Garden Society Season Finale Has Fans Saying the Same Thing

Grosse Pointe Garden Society wrapped up its freshman run on Friday, May 16.

Season 1 Episode 13, titled "Bad Seeds," answered some of the biggest lingering questions while raising even more suspicions.

One of the main revelations—spoilers ahead— was that Alice's (AnnaSophia Robb) dog was killed by Marilyn (Jennifer Irwin), the garden club's president, not Patty (Nancy Travis), her mother-in-law, as previously believed. A flashback scene revealed that Marilyn accidentally fired a gun that she borrowed from Patty when she thought her cat was getting attacked by a coyote, only to realize that she'd hit Alice's furry friend, Molly.

Alice was relieved to learn the truth after all this time, but she also realized she was turning into the monster she was hunting down. By harboring the secret of what happened to Quiche and allowing Patty to live in the unknown, she was doing the same exact thing that Marilyn did to her. Her guilty conscience got the best of her, so she went to the police station to confess to her crime of accidentally contributing to the death of Patty's husband, Keith (Ron Yuan). However, Joel (Matthew Davis) overheard and stepped in, with the season never revealing what else transpired at the station.

Of course, we already know Joel will do anything to protect Birdie (Melissa Fumero), and thus, likely didn't let Alice confess her sins.

The timeline then jumps forward to Halloween at the garden society, with a carved pumpkin teasing "Next Season"—the show's fate remains unknnown as it hasn't been renewed for a second season yet—as we see Birdie, Brett (Ben Rappaport) and Catherine (Aja Naomi King) scolding someone for breaking their trust, though the person's identity remains hidden under a duck costume. Is it Alice? Is it Kenny—the PI who moved Keith's body and tried to blackmail them before they saved his life after he suffered a Widowmaker heart attack? Is it Joel? Is it gas station guy? The list of suspects is never-ending.

With the cliffhanger introducing another mystery, fans immediately rallied for a renewal from NBC—the same network that previously canceled five show's in one fell swoop.

If NBC chooses not to renew the series on its primetime network, depending on interest in the series, it's possible it may save the show by streaming a second season on Peacock.
