SOUTH CAROLINA women’s basketball head coach Dawn Staley had been planning to go to Super Bowl 59.
But now she can’t – because of Donald Trump.
Gamescocks coach Staley, a six-time All-Star as a player and three-time national champion as a coach. was born and raised in Philadelphia and is a huge Eagles fan.
But despite wanting to be in attendance when the Eagles face the Kansas City Chiefs, federal law has prevented her.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), there is restricted air traffic when the president in town.
South Carolina has a game in Austin, against Texas, that tips off at 2pm ET.
With kickoff in New Orleans set for 6.30pm ET, Staley needed to fly back to Louisiana to make the game.
But the restrictions mean that won’t be happening.
Staley, wearing an Eagles shirt and visor, said: “I’m not going to the Super Bowl, Trump is going to be at the Super Bowl so they closed the airspace.
“Party here though.”
The FAA states in their laws: “Section 5. Flight Restrictions in the Proximity of the Presidential and Other Parties.
“No person may operate an aircraft over or in the vicinity of any area to be visited or traveled by the President, the Vice President, or other public figures contrary to the restrictions established by the FAA.”
Trump will become the first sitting president to attend a Super Bowl as he plans to be in attendance for the game.
He has not picked a winner – although did hint that he favors Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs.
“I don’t want to say, but there’s a certain quarterback that seems to be a pretty good winner,” Trump said.
Mahomes got caught up in a political storm during the election after his wife, Brittany, liked a post of Trump’s on social media.
She deleted it but it was seen as an endorsement of the Republican party – which also upset Taylor Swift.
On Trump’s praise, Mahomes said he “didn’t see the clip”.

He then added: “Yeah, I mean it’s always cool to be able to play in front of a sitting president, someone that is at the top position in our country.”
Fellow Chiefs superstar Travis Kelce offered a similar response: “That’s awesome. It’s a great honor.
“I think, you know, no matter who the president is, I know I’m excited because it’s the biggest game of my life, you know, and having the president there, you know, it’s the best country in the world.
“So, that’d be pretty cool.”
