Greater Victoria football fans will be thrilled to know that the B.C. Lions are battling the Calgary Stampeders at Starlight Stadium in Langford on Monday, May 19.
“It’s a major milestone for our owner Amar Doman and the entire organization to stage a game in Langford,” says Lions’ president Duane Vienneau.
“Vancouver Island boasts a very passionate segment of our fan base. Last year’s Touchdown Pacific in Victoria served as a great reminder at our far-reaching Lions fans are across our great province.”
The football club and City of Langford made the announcement Thursday, Feb. 6. It is welcome news from the City of Langford, who expressed disappointment in December 2023 when it was announced the B.C. Lions would play a Canadian football League game in Victoria in 2024 instead of the Starlight Stadium.
City staff and elected officials have been in ongoing discussions with the B.C. Lions about a potential game in Langford since 2022, the City stated in a Facebook post.
“We recognize that large sporting events such as this not only bring significant exposure to Langford but also contribute substantially to the local economy. This event also provides a unique opportunity for residents, particularly youth, to witness professional sports right here in their own city,” said Landford mayor Scott Goodmanson in a press release.
The pre-season opener game will take place at 1 p.m.
B.C. Lions season ticket members will be able to opt in for their seats to the Langford pre-season game. Tickets go on sale March 11.
