Mizzou ace Javyn Pimental to miss 2025 season, Kerrick Jackson announces

Mizzou was dealt a massive blow just before the start of the 2025 baseball season, with head coach Kerrick Jackson announcing on Wednesday that standout pitcher Javyn Pimental is heading for Tommy John surgery and will miss the entire season.

This is a brutal loss for Mizzou, as the senior Pimental held the best ERA in 2024 for the Tigers and posted the fourth-most innings pitched. Pimental was a frequent starter for the Tigers but also provided long relief in some games. Jackson was confident enough to use Pimental at any point of the game.

The Tigers already were struggling with piecing together a starting staff for this season before this bombshell dropped just days before the start of the 2025 campaign. Pimental was the only pitcher Missouri had from last season who started more than 3 games. Now, he’s out of the picture for 2025, so the Tigers will have to look for more answers as this season gets ready to start.

“We’re still trying to figure those things out,” Jackson said about his team’s rotation. “We’ve had some guys that have done some really good things for us. We have some good arms but don’t necessarily have a lot of starting experience, so we’re kind of working through that a little bit to this point to kind of try and figure out how everything is going to pan out.”

Missouri kicks off the season in the Caribbean, facing Penn State on Feb. 14 in the Puerto Rico Challenge.
