Monthly roundup: Best individual NBA performances from January

Jalen Brunson recorded 44 points vs. the Bucks on Jan. 12 to earn a spot among January’s top performances.

As the month wraps up, it’s a great time to look back and analyze which players had the best individual performances in January.

    5. Jalen Brunson: Bucks vs. Knicks, Jan. 12

Brunson is one of the best floor generals in the NBA and a 2025 All-Star Game starter. He’s had several moments of brilliance throughout the season, but perhaps none was bigger than his outing against the Bucks.

In that game, Brunson finished with a 44-point performance that included six assists and five rebounds. The efficiency was also impressive, as Brunson shot 16-for-26 from the floor, including 5-for-10 from 3-point range. The Knicks won in a blowout, 140-106.

    4. CJ McCollum: Wizards vs. Pelicans, Jan. 3

McCollum has been the most consistent performer for the Pelicans this season, turning back the clock on Jan. 3 against the Wizards.

McCollum finished with 50 points while shooting 18-for-27 from the floor and 10-for-16 from 3-point range in 31 minutes during the 132-120 win.

    3. Daniel Gafford: Mavericks vs. Hornets, Jan. 20

In the final two weeks of January, Gafford has been one of the most productive big men in the NBA. Gafford had one of his best performances of the season in a 110-105 loss to the Hornets on Jan. 20 when he posted 31 points, 15 rebounds, seven blocks and three assists. He also shot 12-for-15 from the floor in that game.

    2. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: Jazz vs. Thunder, Jan. 22

Gilgeous-Alexander carried the Thunder to a 123-114 victory thanks to a 54-point masterpiece, which also marked a new career-high. He shot 17-for-35 from the field and sank 17 of his 18 attempts from the charity stripe. He rounded it out with eight rebounds, five assists, three steals and two blocks.

    Kings vs. Nuggets, Jan. 23

January was another month of dominance from Jokić, who is playing at an MVP level yet again. In a 132-123 win over the Kings, he finished with a triple-double of 35 points (12-19 FG, 2-3 3PT, 9-10 FT), 22 rebounds and 17 assists. This also marked his fifth straight triple-double before the fourth quarter.
