John F. Kennedy's grandson is speaking out against one of the executive orders made by Donald Trump during the first week of his second term.
Jack Schlossberg took to X following the news that the incumbent president aimed to declassify the remaining government documents relating to not only his assassination but those of his brother, Robert F. Kennedy, and Martin Luther King, Jr., addressing any conspiracy theorists who believed the move would unveil some hidden truth.
"The truth is [a lot] sadder than the myth," he wrote on the afternoon of Thursday, Jan. 23, calling it "a tragedy that didn't need to happen" and denying that it was "part of an inevitable grand scheme."
"Declassification is using JFK as a political prop, when he’s not here to punch back," he concluded. "There’s nothing heroic about it."
JFK conspiracy theories —The truth is alot sadder than the myth — a tragedy that didn’t need to happen. Not part of an inevitable grand scheme. Declassification is using JFK as a political prop, when he’s not here to punch back. There’s nothing heroic about it. Jack
— Jack Schlossberg (@JBKSchlossberg) January 23, 2025Trump signed an executive order for "the declassification of files relating to the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and Dr. Reverend Martin Luther King Jr." on Thursday. When an aid told him what he was about to sign, Trump said, "That's a big one, huh? A lot of people are waiting for this for a long — for years, for decades," per CBS.
According to Britannica, a number of theories place the blame for JFK's shooting on Cuba, while one even suggests that Lyndon B. Johnson orchestrated the whole thing to ensure his position as the next president.
There are only about 3,000 documents relating to JFK's death left to release, after 97 percent of the five million or so pages were previously made public.
Schlossberg isn't the only one speaking out against the president's order. The King family also released a statement pushing back against the decision late Thursday.

— The Martin Luther King, Jr. Center (@TheKingCenter) January 24, 2025"For us, the assassination of our father is a deeply personal family loss that we have endured over the last 56 years. We hope to be provided the opportunity to review the files as a family prior to its public release," the family wrote.
The executive order requires the director of national intelligence and attorney general—though neither position has been confirmed yet—to spend the next 15 days crafting a plan to release the JFK files. After that, they have 45 days to draft plans to release all of the RFK and MLK files.
