Gracie McGraw is speaking out amid growing dissent against Meta after Instagram and Facebook users claimed platforms automatically followed Donald Trump's official POTUS accounts and JD Vance's VP accounts on their behalf.
In screenshots shared by the Instagram account shityoushouldcareabout, a number of users shared anecdotes of discovering they were following the accounts and having difficulty unfollowing or blocking them, and it seems the eldest daughter of Tim McGraw and Faith Hill can relate.
The actress took to her Instagram Story to express frustration on the evening of Jan. 21, comparing the company's alleged actions to Apple's infamous automated porting of U2's Songs of Innocence into the music library of every iTunes user at the time.
"Meta automatically following (ew) AND (ew) is reminiscent of when Apple forced us all to listen to that U2 album in 2014," she wrote. "Immediately blocked."

Even more commenters shared similar stories, with one admitting, "I can't believe this is true until I saw it for my own eyes. Yep, I had to block and then reblock."
"VP keeps making me refollow. About to delete these apps," another threatened.
Folks theorized that the accounts automatically transferred from Joe Biden and Kamala Harris' official pages, retaining their followers. But as others pointed out, the 46th administration's accounts have been retained as an archive, with Trump's latest official account and Vance's new account each posting for the first time on Jan. 20.
Meta communications employee Andy Stone and former Facebook employee Katie Harbath failed to clear things up when they addressed the transition on Threads, with Stone noting that the White House controls the accounts, which "change when the occupant of the White House changes," and Harbath "back[ing] up" his point.
"...My team set up the first ways of having to do this when Trump won in 2016 and we had to transfer the official accounts that President Obama's team created when Facebook pages were first created," she wrote. "Same was done during the transfer from Trump to Biden. The old ones go to an archived account and the followers remain, but the feed is wiped clean. Most platforms handle it this way."
