TREY Lance’s NFL future is murky after spending the 2024 season as a third-string quarterback.
Lance appeared in just four games this season for the Dallas Cowboys.
Coming out of college, Lance was a highly touted prospect who demanded a large amount of draft capital.
He only had one true season in 2019 before missing most of the 2020 season.
In that 2019 season, Lance passed for 2,786 yards with 28 touchdowns and no interceptions.
He also rushed for 1,100 yards with 14 touchdowns in that season.
The San Francisco 49ers swung a massive trade with the Miami Dolphins to trade up to No. 3 in the 2021 NFL Draft to select Lance.
Unfortunately for him, things never worked out in San Francisco, and he only appeared in eight games over two years.
In those two years, Lance passed for 797 yards with five touchdowns and two interceptions.
He also rushed for 235 yards with one touchdown.
Ahead of the 2023 season, the 49ers traded Lance to the Cowboys, and he didn’t appear in a single game that season.
He didn’t make his Cowboys debut until 2024 and didn’t get much of an opportunity until the final game of the season.
Against the Washington Commanders on Sunday, Lance passed for 244 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions.
That performance could have opened a few eyes for teams looking to take a shot on him as he enters free agency this offseason.
NFL fans still have split opinions on Lance though, and shared their thoughts about him on social media.
“Nothing too flashy but this is the most normal and settled Trey Lance has ever looked in the NFL,” one fan said.
“Brock Purdy being a viable starter really saved the entire Niners’ front office’s jobs. That Trey Lance pick was horrible,” another fan said.
“I saw three throws and I’m back in on Trey Lance,” a third fan said.
“Little things like that is why Trey Lance is never going to be starter,” a fourth fan said.
“I see a lot of Giants fans saying we should bring in Justin Fields, but why not Trey Lance?” a fifth fan said.
Lance will likely get another job in the NFL if he doesn’t stay with the Cowboys, but he probably won’t get a shot as a starter anywhere.
That ship probably sailed the moment he was traded away from the 49ers in 2023.
