RETAIL giant Dollar General has apologized after a shopper slammed one of its understaffed local stores for creating chaos during checkout.
The angry customer has taken to social media to call out the “pathetic” store and slam its decision to remove self-checkout tills.
They wrote on X/Twitter: “This store is pathetic. You got rid of the self-checkout and left just one guy to take care of this mess.
“And on top of that, you refuse to hire [more] people. It is under-staffed everywhere. Get it together or fire your CEO.”
Dollar General has since responded and apologized to the fuming customer.
A spokesperson wrote to the shopper: “We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused.
“Please know that your feedback will be shared with the appropriate members of our team.”
It comes after another shopper slammed the store to blast the discount chain’s return policy.
Dollar General refused to refund money paid by the customer’s son for a headset that turned out to be faulty.
“What an absolutely stupid policy! My 13-year-old son used his money to buy a $15 headset for use on his Xbox at your Becker MN location,” wrote Justin Kowski on X.
He continued: “They did not work properly. We went in with the receipt to return them.”
“We were told even with the receipt, we could only get money back on a gift card.
The furious father then went on to criticize the retailer further.
“You’re stealing from a child by making him make another purchase there, you crooks. A purchase he wants no part of.
“He wants cash to go elsewhere to buy better ones.”
Dollar General has responded and has apologized.
“Hi, Justin. We’re sorry to hear that this occurred. Can you please send us a DM?”, said a spokesman.
There are no further public comments so it is not known if the complaint has since been resolved.
Dollar General’s return policy
Dollar General’s return policy states that goods bought in-store must be returned in-store, and goods purchased online have to be returned by mail.
Consumers have 30 days to return items, whether that’s online or in store.
Goods generally should be unused and in their original packaging, and a receipt is required for a cash refund.
Without a receipt, the customer is limited to an exchange or store credit.
Damaged goods should also be returned within 30 days of purchase and with a receipt.
There are a few exceptions to the policy, including opened electronics.
However, the refund policy on damaged goods should also cover these – though if the product was damaged by the customer there will be no refund given.
Dollar General is one of the top discount retailers in the US, with over 20,000 stores throughout the nation.
This is not the first time the discount retailer has come under fire from customers and even employees.
One of its workers posted a video on TikTok that highlighted a price discrepancy on a product, calling into question whether the discounted price shown on the label was cheaper than the regular price.
Meanwhile a customer who thought he’d received extra discounts was dismayed to find the reductions cost him more money at the checkout.
