Youngest PDC World Championship winners: Luke Littler aims to obliterate Michael van Gerwen’s Ally Pally record in final

Luke Littler can break a PDC World Championship record when he takes on Michael van Gerwen in the 2025 final tonight.

‘The Nuke’ burst onto the darts scene by reaching the showpiece at Ally Pally at the age of just 16 last year.

At 347 days past his birthday, it made him the youngest finalist in PDC World Darts Championship history.

However, Littler missed out on his crowning glory after losing 7-4 to Luke Humphries.

But now a year later, the Manchester United fan is aiming to go one better after racking up more than £600,000 in total earnings.

Littler has two major title wins in the Premier League and Grand Slam of Darts and boasts a frightening list of accolades and records.

The most coveted of which still remains up for grabs ahead of his second final appearance at Alexandra Palace…

Who is the youngest PDC World Championship winner?

Van Gerwen remains the youngest player to win the World Darts Championship following his triumph in 2014.

The Dutchman was 24 years old when he beat Peter Wright 7-4 to claim the first of his three titles – winning again in 2017 and 2019.

Littler is aged 17 and 11 months ahead of the 2025 final this evening.

“I know Michael van Gerwen holds the youngest at 24,” Littler told Sky Sports before the tournament.

“So I’ve got seven years, I could just slouch about for six years and just win it when I’m 24.

Van Gerwen is a three-time champion and one of the greatest of all timeGetty

“I’d obviously like to win it before Michael won it, it would mean everything to be the youngest, that’s definitely what I’m looking for.”

Now, he’s on the brink of what he’s been trying to achieve and incredibly he can break Van Gerwen’s record against him.

Littler has been in scintillating form in the back quarter of the year and was only beaten by Humphries in a close final at the most recent Players Championship Finals event.

He has now won a total of ten titles averaging an incredible 98.9 in 2024, winning 144 of his 186 matches.

Littler came into this year’s World Championships as the bookies’ favourite to lift the Sid Waddell Trophy.

And he’s dealt with the pressure, putting himself in a perfect position to write his name in darts history again.

Littler would shatter the previous record

Van Gerwen won’t be shocked should Littler beat him, as he’d be expecting the teenager to break his record.

The Dutchman previously said: “He’s still got years.

“With his capability, it will surprise me if he’s not going to do it.”

However, he’s not too bothered about losing his impressive stat.

“I don’t really care; I don’t look at stats,” Van Gerwen admitted.

“The same people talk to me about beating some of Phil Taylor’s records – I don’t care.

“It’s all about what you do now, and whoever’s in your path. You have to face it and beat it.”

Littler and Van Gerwen face off at Ally Pally tonight at around 8pm and coverage will be live on talkSPORT.
