The incident unfolded on the third ball of the 66th over of India’s first innings in the ongoing New Year’s Test, as Washington Sundar was left writhing in pain after a brutal delivery from Pat Cummins at the SCG on Day 1. As Cummins bowled a nip-backer, Sundar tried to block it with his high hands, but the ball beat him on the inside edge, sending it straight into his box.

The impact was immediate and extremely painful, resulting in Washington Sundar collapsing to the ground in agony, unable to recover from the painful blow. Team India’s physio rushed onto the field to assess the damage as the Indian all-rounder struggled to get back on his feet following the nasty blow.
It is certainly a moment no player ever wants to experience, and Sundar's discomfort was evident as he lay on the ground. This painful incident left fans and players worried for the Indian cricketer.
