LSU beats Baylor 44-31 in Texas Bowl

The Texas Bowl, held on December 31, 2024, showcased a compelling matchup between Louisiana State University (LSU) and Baylor University. LSU emerged victorious with a score of 44-31, concluding their season with a commendable 9-4 record. The Tigers demonstrated remarkable offensive prowess early in the game, scoring touchdowns on their first two possessions. This strong start set the tone for the remainder of the contest and allowed them to maintain control despite Baylor's attempts at a comeback.

The Tigers opened the game with a dominant six-minute drive that was capped off with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Trey’Dez Green. When Baylor finally got the ball they were not able to hold onto it for long. Sawyer Robertson attempted a screen pass to Bryson Washington, the ball was tipped and Davhon Keys intercepted the pass for a touchdown to take a quick 14-point advantage.

Robertson settled in afterwards, throwing for 445 yards and two touchdowns but it still was not enough to come away with the victory.

Baylor’s defense struggled most of the matchup. It allowed over 300 yards passing and over 100 yards on the ground. LSU turned the ball over twice but Baylor could not come up with stops consistently, only forcing one punt the entire game.

Baylor closed to 34-24 on a 4-yard touchdown pass from Robertson to Ashtyn Hawkins with six minutes left in the third quarter, and after Garmon Randolph intercepted Nussmeier to give the Bears the ball on the LSU 26, Baylor had a chance to cut into the lead further.
