The public was being warned of dangerous ocean conditions at San Diego County beaches Tuesday due to high surf.
“We’re cautioning everyone to stay out of the water at this point,” National Weather Service meteorologist Sebastian Westerink said. “We’re seeing high surf in San Diego County of 6- to 12-feet with sets up to 13 feet. We currently have a high surf advisory out until 4 a.m. Wednesday.”
Westerink said high surf will persist longer on west-facing beaches such as Imperial Beach, but was less severe at southwest-facing beaches like Carlsbad. He added swimmers and surfers should still avoid the water at those beaches due to dangerous rip currents.
The meteorologist said light rain and scattered showers remain in the forecast for later Tuesday.
“We probably will not see showers until sometime later this afternoon, 4 to 6 p.m., with showers starting along the coast,” Westerink said.
