Stranger Things fans have watched the young cast grow up in front of their eyes, but as the horror sci-fi smash comes to a close with its upcoming final season, even they can’t believe how much has changed since the Netflix show started in 2016.
Millie Bobby Brown, one of the stars of the series, posted a touching recap of her time on set, prompting fans to reminisce and marvel at all that’s happened since they were first introduced to her character, Eleven.

Brown, 20, was just 12 years old when she began filming the show, and she started off her Instagram carousel posted on Dec. 20 with a photo of her at that age, posing with wide eyes and closely cropped hair while sitting with a script in front of her.
The next snap showed a more grown-up Brown, in costume as Eleven, during a Season 4 scene of the show that took place at a roller skating rink.

Brown posed cheekily in the third photo, where she had makeup that made it look like she had blood coming out of her eyes and nose, and the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh snaps showed more behind-the-scenes glimpses, from Brown goofing off on the set to her getting into character while in costume.
But the final item in the carousel, a black and white video of Brown speaking to the cast and crew, pulled at fans’ heartstrings the most.
In the video, Brown can be seen reading from a cell phone as she compares wrapping up filming with graduating from school. “Isn’t graduation supposed to bring relief, like you’re glad to leave behind the teachers and classmates,” she asked.
Brown continued, tearfully declaring, “Not me. I am nowhere near ready to leave you guys. I love each and every one of you and I’ll forever carry the memories and bonds we’ve created together as a family. I love you, thank you.”
Fans jumped into the comments to compliment Brown for her role on the show, writing, “el is going down in history books.” Others agreed, commenting, “the most beautifully written character that couldn’t have been played without you Millie. ?,” and “Sobbing ? so proud of you!”
One fan wrote “Okay but where does time go? We literally watched them grow up? (& grew up with them ofc)” while others echoed the sentiment, commenting, “We all grew up with her not just with el but with Millie she has grown into a beautiful strong woman and now who is married ❤️ can’t wait to see what the future brings for you!! ??.”
Brown’s husband, Jake Bongiovi, commented too, simply writing, “Iconic ❤️.”
