The Northern Colorado softball team, the two-time defending Big Sky Conference Tournament champion, will open its season against power conference opponents in early February at the Puerto Vallarta Challenge in Mexico.
The Bears, also the defending Big Sky Conference regular-season champion, starts its conference schedule in late March in Greeley. UNC will host the Big Sky Conference Tournament May 6-9 at Gloria Rodriguez Field by winning the Big Sky regular season title last year.
UNC plays two of its first four games against Florida State of the Atlantic Coast Conference and Oklahoma State of the Big 12 Conference Feb 6-8 in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The Bears also play two games at the challenge against Louisiana Tech of Conference USA.
UNC, 27-26 a year ago, will face Oklahoma State for the second time in two years. The Bears played Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Oklahoma in an NCAA Tournament regional game last year. UNC’s 2024 season ended at the regional on a walk-off home run by Michigan in an elimination game.

We are excited to challenge ourselves in our preseason on the road and at a few home events to prepare for conference play.”
After the Mexico trip, UNC plays on the road through late February. The Bears have trips scheduled to Las Cruces, New Mexico, Nebraska, suburban New York City, El Paso, Texas and Raleigh, North Carolina.
UNC opens at home Friday, Feb. 28 and Saturday, March 1 hosting Tennessee Tech and Texas A&M – Corpus Christi for four games in the Colorado Classic. The games will be played be played at Rodriguez Field, beginning at 3 p.m. Friday and noon and 3 p.m. Saturday.
In Raleigh, the Bears will compete in North Carolina State’s tournament Feb. 21-23 including two games against the host Wolfpack, also the ACC. UNC will also have games against Illinois of the Big Ten and Central Michigan.
Later in March, UNC returns to Nebraska for games March 6-8 in Lincoln, and then a trip to Los Angeles and Long Beach, California March 15-16, 18 to play Loyola Marymount and Long Beach State.
UNC starts its 15-game conference schedule March 28-29 with a home series against Montana at Rodriguez Field. The Bears also play Portland State at home April 18-19, and they have road series against Idaho State (April 4-5), Sacramento State (April 11-12) and Weber State (April 25-26).
