Ruben Amorim believes that luck, fitness and clinical finishing must go Manchester United’s way in order to claim Europa League glory at Tottenham Hotspur’s expense.
This season’s showpiece will feature the two Premier League sides in Bilbao on May 21 after their dominant semi-final victories.
United thrashed Athletic Bilbao 7-1 on aggregate, whilst Spurs were 5-1 winners over the two legs against Bodo/Glimt.
Amorim will take charge of his first final at United since making his move to Old Trafford from Sporting Lisbon in November.
And when talking to TNT Sports, he revealed what aspects of the match he thinks must fall in line for them to beat Spurs later this month.
He said: “I’m just worried about the next game, trying to not get any injuries for the final. If we don’t win the final, it means nothing for us.
“We have to have a full squad [against Spurs], stay in the game and have a bit of luck and we have to be clinical.
“It’s quite similar for me and Ange [Postecoglou]. It is a tough moment [for us both] and one of us is going to win. It’s going to be a big final and we will try to win.
“It’s hard to describe what it’s like to be manager of this club and you want to give them [the fans] something because we were so disappointing in the Premier League. We want to give something to the fans.”
Speaking on the result against Bilbao, Amorim added: “It’s the least we can do for these fans, for the support they have given us in this tough season.
“I’m stressed already because of the final. If we don’t do it, it means nothing, but we’re happy to be there so let’s see.
“I know I should be a better manager and the team should be better at this moment but we’re trying. We did quite well in Europe but we are struggling in the Premier League.”
Amorim has detailed how United can win the trophyAFP They will meet Premier League rivals Spurs in less than two weeksGettyUnited were 3-0 winners against Bilbao in the first leg and, despite going 1-0 down on Thursday, they cruised to another win.
Mason Mount scored two goals off the bench to help complete the comeback, with Casemiro and Rasmus Hojlund also netting.
Bilbao are the second Spanish side to have been beaten by United in the knockout stages after last 16 opponents Real Sociedad.
Meanwhile, Spurs travelled to Norwegian underdogs Bodo/Glimt with a 3-1 lead from the first leg.
Goals from Dominic Solanke and Pedro Porro ensured that they will also be travelling to Bilbao later on in the month.
Ange Postecoglou’s side will potentially be the more confident side in the final given their previous meetings.
United came from behind to beat Bilbao in the second legGettySpurs have won all three matches against United this season in the Premier League and Carabao Cup by an aggregate score of 8-3.
However, United won the Europa League in 2017 and could be set for a third consecutive season with a trophy win.
