Julia Hernández (CNN) — El aire helado del Ártico se apoderó este sábado de gran parte del este de Estados Unidos, mientras que la nieve de efecto lago amenazó con interrumpir los desplazamientos tras las vacaciones en partes de la región de los Grandes Lagos. Según el Centro de Predicción Meteorológica del Servicio Meteorológico Nacional, se espera que una masa de aire gélido que se extendió hacia el sur por el norte de las Llanuras y el Medio Oeste hasta el sur y la costa este se prolongue hasta el fin de semana, con las temperaturas más frías desde el invierno pasado. Se prevé que las temperaturas desciendan entre -9 °C y -3 °C (15 °F y 25 °F) en una amplia franja del este de EE.UU
