Real Madrid's victory over Girona with a 4-2 scoreline not only secured their 36th Laliga title but also dealt a major blow to their arch-rivals Barcelona. The match was a thrilling display of skill and determination from the Real Madrid players, who showed why they are considered one of the best teams in the world.
From the opening whistle, Real Madrid dominated the game, with goals coming from all corners of the pitch. Their attacking prowess was on full display as they tore through Barcelona's defense time and time again. The victory was a testament to their hard work and dedication throughout the season.
Xavi Hernandez's side were the only one left who could prevent their bitter rivals Real lifting the title, but their faint hopes were extinguished in Girona as they fell to their second league defeat in three matches.
Real Madrid now can turn their attention to a LaLiga-Champions League double as they get ready to host Bayern Munich in the semi-final return leg on Wednesday after snatching a 2-2 draw in Germany last week.
"It's obviously a contained joy, because the most important game of the season (Bayern) is also very close, but we have to be happy," Ancelotti told Movistar Plus+ on Saturday, before knowing the Barca result.
Ancelotti’s side have lost just one league match all season — a 3-1 defeat at Atletico Madrid in September — and are currently on an unbeaten 28-game run of league matches.
Real Madrid have already won the Spanish Supercopa this season — defeating Barcelona 4-1 in January’s final — and are currently 2-2 in their Champions League semi-final tie against Bayern Munich after last week’s first leg in Germany.
Madrid face Bayern Munich on Wednesday in the Champions League, as they bid to secure a special double.
Los Blancos drew the semi-final first leg 2-2 in Bavaria and host the German giants on Wednesday at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The win guaranteed Champions League football for Girona next term, and stole back second place to put them in line for participation in the lucrative Spanish Super Cup.
The landmark development also meant that Madrid was giftwrapped the title, however.
