Caitlin Clark impresses with 21 points in WNBA debut

Caitlin Clark, the highly touted rookie out of Iowa, made her much-anticipated debut in the WNBA with a bang. The 21-year-old guard put on a show for fans and critics alike, scoring an impressive 21 points in her first game with the league. Clark's performance was nothing short of spectacular, showcasing her incredible skill set and basketball IQ.

Her ability to score from all areas of the court, combined with her court vision and passing ability, left spectators in awe. It was clear from the start that Clark is a special talent with a bright future ahead of her in the WNBA.

The NCAA's all-time leading scorer scored 11 of Indiana's first 19 points before finishing with 16 in the first half, highlighted by a stepback 3-pointer against veteran Natasha Howard. She went scoreless in the third quarter and sat on the bench for much of the frame after picking up her third and fourth fouls in quick succession.

Upon re-entering the game in the fourth, Clark hit another 3-pointer, her fifth of the night and found Aliyah Boston for an assist on the pick-and-roll. A "welcome to the WNBA" moment came with the game tied and less than 30 seconds to play when Howard blocked Clark's layup attempt with the shot clock dwindling.

The WNBA initially indicated, incorrectly as it turned out, that all its preseason games would be available on WNBA League Pass.

While the Fever game streamed for free on the WNBA app as advertised, the Sky vs. Lynx showdown was unavailable anywhere — officially, that is.

The Wings last month said they had sold out their season-ticket allotment, which accounts for about 2,500 seats.

Indiana will return to College Park Center to play twice during the regular season, on July 17 in the last game before the WNBA’s nearly month-long Olympic hiatus and one day after the MLB All-Star Game is played at the Texas Rangers’ home stadium less than three miles away. The Fever also play there Sept. 1.

Clark struggled with foul trouble in the second half, picking up her fourth at the under-5 mark of the third quarter. The physicality also affected her passing, a category in which she is usually unstoppable; she had just two assists compared to five turnovers.

She finished the game with 21 points on 6-of-15 shooting from the floor, including 5-of-13 from 3, in 28 minutes.
