Knicks fend off Sixers in Game 1 (111-104)

In a thrilling matchup between the New York Knicks and the Philadelphia 76ers, the Knicks emerged victorious in Game 1 with a final score of 111-104. The game was a back-and-forth battle, with both teams displaying their offensive prowess and defensive tenacity.

The Knicks were led by their star player, Julius Randle, who put up an impressive performance with 30 points and 10 rebounds. Randle's leadership on the court was instrumental in guiding his team to victory.

McBride outscored the 76ers by himself with 13 points in the second quarter, when Joel Embiid had to leave after appearing to reinjure his surgically repaired left knee on a dunk. He returned and rallied the 76ers into the lead in the second half, but Josh Hart hit a couple big 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to help the Knicks pull it out.

Hart also had 13 rebounds for the Knicks, who had lost Game 1 the last three times they opened a series at home. They host Game 2 on Monday.

Alas, while the Sixers won the first and third quarters by a total of 24 points (70-46), they lost the second and fourth by a total of 31 (65-34).

Embiid’s 36:33 of playing time was a little less than he logged in the Sixers’ Play-In victory on Wednesday, but still his second-highest total in the seven games he’s played since returning from injury.

Sixers head coach Nick Nurse didn’t have a postame update on Embiid, who chose not to speak with the media after the game.

The Knicks had a bad third quarter, getting outscored 36-21 in the period while the Sixers retook the lead.

A game that at one point seemed well in hand became a battle.

The Knicks made shots late – OG Anunoby drained a three-pointer with 1:28 remaining to put his team up by seven.

Hart and New York will look to take this performance and repeat it in order to dispose of the 76ers, although that is a task that will not be very easy. Earning another victory before heading to Philadelphia for the first time will be a crucial next step.
