On a chilly Saturday afternoon at Old Trafford, Manchester United faced off against Fulham in a thrilling Premier League match. The Red Devils were looking to continue their winning streak, while Fulham was determined to secure an upset victory.
The game started off with both teams showing great attacking intent, but it was Manchester United who struck first with a goal from Marcus Rashford. However, Fulham quickly equalized with a well-taken goal from Aleksandar Mitrovic.
United, who lost for the first time in six league matches, are sixth in the table on 44 points, eight behind fourth-placed Aston Villa. Fulham are 12th on 32 points.
"I'm over the moon right now to come back into the team and get the win here -- there is no better feeling," Iwobi said. "We feel we performed really well and have been performing really well recently, it is just about getting the results."
Fulham struck first when Calvin Bassey scored in the 65th minute, firing his own rebound into the roof of the net for his first goal for the Cottagers.
This was Calvin Bassey’s opener, which derived, initially, from one of the countless counterattacks United conceded. Harrison Reed thumped a diagonal attempt that Onana tipped over for a corner, Andreas Pereira floated this in from the right and the ball fell to Bassey. As those in red slumbered the centre-back struck, the ball rebounded to him off Timothy Castagne, and he rifled it into the roof of the net.
United were missing injured striker Rasmus Højlund, who scored in their six previous league games, and Alejandro Garnacho was their most dangerous forward with a shot cleared off the line by defender Antonee Robinson and another that Leno pushed away with a diving save.
Before this and until the end, the contest was a basketball-esque affair featuring end-to-end attacks that signified a lack of control from either team. Maguire’s finish registered his first goal in the competition this season and came as United appeared beaten. Bruno Fernandes dipped a shoulder along the left and unloaded a shot, Bernd Leno parried the ball and there was the former captain to score to his and all those of a United persuasion’s delight.
United looked to be finishing the stronger as it pushed for a late winner but was caught out by Iwobi, who finished off a break led by Adama Traore.
