UFC Mexico City: Moreno vs. Royval 2

The highly anticipated rematch between Brandon Moreno and Brandon Royval at UFC Mexico City did not disappoint fans as the two fighters put on a thrilling display of skill and determination. The first fight ended in a controversial finish, with Moreno emerging victorious after Royval suffered an injury. This time, both fighters were determined to leave no doubt about who the better man was.

From the opening bell, it was clear that this fight would be a back-and-forth battle, with both men landing significant strikes and showcasing their grappling prowess. Moreno showed his improved striking skills while Royval demonstrated his unorthodox style and relentless pressure.

In the main event, former UFC champion Brandon Moreno squares off against Brandon Royval in a rematch. Moreno knocked out Royval in the first round at UFC 255 on Nov. 21, 2020.

Yair Rodriguez and Brian Ortega clash in a featherweight rematch in the co-main event. Rodriguez defeated Ortega via first-round TKO due to Ortega’s shoulder injury at UFC on ABC 3 on July 16, 2022.

The rest of the main card is rounded out by young prospect Raul Rosas, Jr., who is looking to make it two in a row against Ricky Turcios, and fellow local prospects Daniel Zellhuber, Yazmin Jauregui, and Manuel Torres. The preliminaries are headlined by exciting bantamweights Cristian Quinonez and Raoni Barcelos.

The rest of the card also features plenty of local talent like Jesus Aguilar, Edgar Chairez, Luis Rodriguez, and Victor Altamirano, all looking to put on a show for their home crowd. Muhammad Naimov opens up as the biggest betting favorite on the card as he takes on Erik Silva.

Royval (16-7) fell to Pantoja via unanimous decision on Dec. 16 at UFC 296. Before that, the Colorado native had won three straight. Royval, 31, has lost to only two men in the UFC: Moreno and Pantoja (twice).

Moreno (21-8-2), a two-time former champion, has dropped two straight, his first losing streak in five years. The Tijuana-born fighter lost the flyweight title to Pantoja last July at UFC 290.

Moreno, 30, is now 0-2 (1 NC) in Mexico. This was his first nontitle fight since the 2020 matchup against Royval.
