Northern Colorado hurdler Jerome Campbell finished third in the 110-meter hurdles Friday at the University of Texas Invitational in Austin, Texas.
Campbell ran the outdoor race in 13.66 seconds to finish behind behind winner Texas Tech’s Malachi Snow (13.38 seconds) and Jamar Marshall Jr. of Houston (13.39).
Campbell’s time was his second-best of the outdoor season. He ran 13.54 seconds last weekend at the Oregon Open in Eugene, Oregon.
Campbell’s six points with the third-place result were the only scored by UNC at the invitational. Donovan Castillo finished 13th in the 400 meters. The UNC women’s team did compete at the meet.
Campbell’s career-best time in the 110 hurdles is 13.30 seconds, set last spring at an NCAA regional meet at the University of Arkansas. He qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Oregon last year. He ran a 13.36 for a seventh place.
Campbell wrapped up the indoor season with strong performances in big meets. He was second in the 60-meters at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, earning status as an NCAA All-American for the second time. About a week later, Campbell ran for his native Jamaica at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in China. He finished seventh in 7.71 seconds.
