Veterinary consultant Karam Mostafa debunked reports that a crocodile had been sighted in the Ausim area of Giza on Sunday, explaining that the sighting is actually of a “Nile monitor”. During a phone call with the privately-owned Sada al-Balad channel, Mostafa confirmed that the Nile monitor is a lizard that does not pose a danger to humans. He continued that it can swallow a rabbit or any small animal, and is a rare animal in residential areas, being more commonly found in deserts and near lakes and seas.
