ReMind Magazine reported that McDonough, who played Erin Walton throughout the beloved show's 9 seasons until 1981, discussed kissing her castmate, Jonathan Frakes, while speaking at the MidSouth Nostalgia Festival during the weekend of June 5. Frakes, best known for his role as Commander William T. Riker in Star Trek: The Next Generation, played Ashley Longworth Jr. in two 1979 episodes of The Waltons, per IMDb.
"We were doing a scene where we get caught kissing. The camera pans away from us to another actor and the director calls ‘Cut!’ But Jonathan and I were still kissing," said McDonough during the panel, which was held in Olive Branch, Mississippi. "'Hey, you two! Stop! Stop kissing!’ [the director yelled]. Very embarrassing. I still talk to [Frakes]. He’s my favorite person to kiss — besides my husband, of course!”
“After more than 50 years, we vacation together, our kids know each other, we go to each other’s weddings and bar mitzvahs, and now our kids are having kids," said the actress.
"We still are so close. We're together all the time. We celebrate birthdays. And unfortunately, every once in a while, a death, we'll lose someone," said McDonough during the interview.
"Mama had us all for dinner," quipped McDonough with a laugh.
