The African Union (AU) Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security on Saturday assured during a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Republic of the Congo that the union’s role in the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) negotiations is purely neutral. Negotiations resumed in Kinshasa to resolve the disagreements over the second filling of the dam, estimated at 13.5 billion cubic meters. The current round seeks to determine the trajectory of negotiations, and discuss Sudan’s proposal to seek assistance from a quadripartite international mediation that includes the European Union, the United Nations and the US to help all three parties reach a binding le
