Johnny Depps Shocking Admission About MeToo Movement

Johnny Depp is opening up about his role in the #MeToo movement during his highly publicized defamation trial with his ex-wife, Amber Heard.

In an interview with The Times of London shared on Saturday, June 21, Depp, 62, shared his thoughts on the impact of the movement that amplified the voices of sexual harassment survivors.

“I’ll tell you what hurts. There are people, and I’m thinking of three, who did me dirty,” Depp said to the outlet. “I was like a crash test dummy for MeToo... and I sponged it, took it all in.”

He added, "Those people were at my kids’ parties. Throwing them in the air. And, look, I understand people who could not stand up [for me], because the most frightening thing to them was making the right choice."

Depp’s legal battle with Heard began after she accused the Pirates of the Caribbean of domestic violence in 2016. Following the defamation lawsuit Depp filed in 2019 over an op-ed Heard wrote in The Washington Post, he ultimately won the trial in 2022. Heard was ordered to pay Depp $10 million in compensatory damages, along with $350,000 in punitive damages. However, she was also awarded $2 million in compensatory damages for her counterclaim. In December 2022, the two settled, with Heard agreeing to pay Depp $1 million.

While the #MeToo movement was originally founded in 2006 by survivor Tarana Burke, the hashtag went viral in 2017 when Alyssa Milano tweeted it, encouraging other survivors to follow suit.

Depp and Heard were married from February 2015 to May 2016 after having a relationship since 2011. Heard went on to welcome three children into the world, on “her own terms,” as she put it on Instagram. In April 2021, the Pineapple Express actress welcomed her first child, a daughter named Oonagh. On May 11, 2025, Heard announced she gave birth to twins, son Ocean and daughter Agnes—the father of her children remains unknown.
