India vs England Weather Report Day 2, Edgbaston Test 2025

There was no rain disruption on Day 1 of the second Test between India and England at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Wednesday, July 2, much to the relief of players and fans alike. Attention now turns to the weather forecast for Day 2, as fans hope conditions will continue to allow uninterrupted play.

India made a bold selection call for the second Test against England. They didn’t include bowlers Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Arshdeep Singh. Despite trailing 0-1 in the series, the visiting team opted for Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, and Akash Deep to shake things up in the playing XI.

After being put into bat by England captain Ben Stokes, India made the most of Day 1 in the second Test at Edgbaston. Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his form from the first Test, scoring 87 off 107 deliveries.

Captain Shubman Gill anchored the innings with an unbeaten 114 off 216 balls. It was his second century of the series and the second by an Indian batter in Birmingham after Virat Kohli.

Karun Nair (31) and Rishabh Pant (25) added useful runs but couldn’t convert their starts, and India found themselves in a spot of bother at 211/5 in the final session. However, Ravindra Jadeja added 41* off 67 balls in an unbeaten 99-run partnership with Gill for the fifth wicket.

By stumps, India had reached 310/5 in 85 overs, with the second new ball just five overs old. England will be hoping to wrap up India’s lower order in the first session.

Day 2 Weather Forecast for India vs England 1st Test at Edgbaston

Day 1 at Edgbaston had ideal batting conditions under clear skies, with no weather interruptions. The England bowlers had to work hard, with Chris Woakes claiming two wickets, while Brydon Carse, Ben Stokes, and Shoaib Bashir chipped in with one each.

Looking ahead to Day 2, similar weather is expected in Birmingham. Forecasts predict bright sunshine throughout the day, with no rain in sight. Temperatures are likely to hover between 18°C and 22°C, offering another excellent day for Test cricket.

With minimal cloud cover, swing through the air may be limited. England’s bowlers will need to rely on seam movement once again, as they did on the opening day. All signs point to another full day of uninterrupted play at Edgbaston.

Jasprit Bumrah Likely to Return to India’s Playing XI for Lord’s Test

With just a three-day gap between the second and third Tests, Jasprit Bumrah is expected to return to the playing XI at Lord’s. The pace ace had a heavy workload in the opening Test at Headingley, where he bowled 43.4 overs during India’s five-wicket defeat.

Following batting failures from the lower order in the last match, India revamped their lineup for the second Test, adding depth with all-rounders. India fielded three all-rounders to bolster the lower middle order and compensate for the tail's lack of runs.

The team’s bowlers had come under criticism after the series opener, not just for their bowling but also for poor shot selection with the bat, which hurt India’s position in both innings.
