The WBA has been accused of showing no respect for boxing by handing Jake Paul an official ranking.
Paul has been ranked 14th at cruiserweight following his latest victory which saw him beat Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. via unanimous decision on Saturday night.
His win over the 39-year-old sees Paul’s professional record move to 12-1.
He now has his eye on a potential world title shot in the future having officially entering the rankings.
WBC cruiserweight champion Badou Jack is amongst those on Paul’s radar.
The three-weight title holder last fought in May, making a successful first defence of his belt.
However, Spencer Oliver has slammed the decision to hand Paul a ranking as well as the possibility he could fight for the world title next.
He told talkBOXING: “He does not deserve a ranking off boxing Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, going off this performance.
“Chavez Jr. did not do anything for eight rounds, he literally covered up. We saw a little something in round nine, then in round ten he decides to open up and do something. I don’t like it.”
Oliver continued: “He’s getting better, of course he’s getting better, but you can’t beat Julio Cesar Chavez Jr and then get a world ranking and get a world title shot.
“They’re talking about Badou Jack and timing could be good there, but come on. Where’s the respect in this sport for anyone that gets ranked off a decision like this.”
Oliver believes handing Paul a title shot would make a ‘mockery’ of the sport GettyPaul has called for a bought with WBC cruiserweight champion Jack[/caption]In response, Adam Smith argued: “This is an entertainment business and Jake Paul is going to fight at some point for a world title and they’re managing it.”
However, Oliver hit back by exclaiming: “Yes it is an entertainment business but come on.
“(There’s) kids that work their a**** off and get in there and have been putting themselves in that position.
“You can’t just go, ‘because you’ve got a huge online presence that you get a world title shot’ because that makes a mockery of the sport.”
Paul appears to have overcome one of the biggest obstacles in his way to a world title fight by receiving a WBA ranking.
His placement at 14th is just five spots behind recent world champion Chris Billam-Smith and seven short of title challenger Yuriel Dorticos.
Meanwhile, the 28-year-old is ranking one spot higher than undefeated American Craig Parker, who has a perfect 20-0 record.
A title tilt against Jack would see Paul face another veteran of the sport, though.
The Swedish fighter, who turns 42 in October, made his professional debut in 2009 and has a 29-3-3 record across 35 bouts.
