The India National Cricket Team came together on June 29 in Birmingham to celebrate the one-year anniversary of their historic 2024 ICC T20 World Cup win. The celebrations were filled with cake, laughter, and some cheeky banter between teammates Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja.
In a video posted by the BCCI, Indian staff brought out two special cakes—one with "Team India" written on it and another that read "Champions of T20 WC 2024."
However, Indian captain Shubman Gill wasn’t part of the ICC T20 World Cup-winning squad, but he led the celebration with energy and even invited Mohammed Siraj and Yashasvi Jaiswal to be part of the cake-cutting.

The rest of the Indian cricket team playfully pushed Arshdeep Singh forward, recognizing his standout performance alongside Jasprit Bumrah in the ICC T20 World Cup last year.
However, Arshdeep shyly stepped back, requesting Bumrah, who was India’s Player of the Series, and Mohammed Siraj to come forward and cut the cakes.
Rishabh Pant’s cheeky retirement joke on Ravindra Jadeja steals the show at the celebration
Then everybody cheered as the players fed each other pieces, but the major highlight came when Rishabh Pant, ever the prankster, took a hilarious dig at Ravindra Jadeja.
Pant, along with Bumrah and Siraj, jokingly told Jadeja that they were also celebrating "one year of his retirement."
Jadeja laughed it off and quickly reminded Pant and others that he had only retired from T20I cricket, not from all formats of the game, which sparked even more laughter among the players.

While both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will now only be active in ODI cricket, Jadeja has decided to continue his Test and ODI career, despite ongoing speculation about his future with the national team. Jadeja had a poor outing in India’s five-wicket loss to England in the first Test at Headingley.
AB de Villiers surprised by India’s Jasprit Bumrah plan on England tour
Meanwhile, AB de Villiers has expressed concern over India's decision to rest Jasprit Bumrah for parts of the ongoing five-match Test series in England. The Proteas legend called it “unfortunate” and said that it is not ideal for India to be without their top pacer for the full tour.
De Villiers compared the situation to how South Africa used to carefully manage Dale Steyn’s workload ahead of major series, suggesting India may have missed an opportunity to do the same with Bumrah. Despite losing the first Test, Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir confirmed that the plan to play Bumrah in only three Tests on the England tour remains unchanged.
AB de Villiers said on his YouTube channel, “It is unfortunate that, with an inexperienced bowling attack, he's not going to play all the Test matches—or at least that's what the media and press seem to be saying. Maybe it's all part of a surprise. They're saying, 'We are thinking of resting Bumrah,' but then he ends up playing all five tests. India is 1-0 down—hopefully that will be the surprise. But perhaps this is also an opportunity for someone like Arshdeep Singh or Kuldeep Yadav to step up.”
