Reese Witherspoon Pays Tribute to Late Morning Show Co-Star

Reese Witherspoon paid tribute to her late The Morning Show co-star Joe Marinelli one week after his death.

Witherspoon, 49, took to her Instagram Stories on Sunday, June 29, to share a photo of Marinelli in character as Donny Spagnoli on The Morning Show.

"So sad to hear about the passing of Joe Marinelli," Witherspoon wrote alongside a red broken heart emoji. "I had the pleasure of working with him on @themorningshow and my heart goes out to his family and loved ones."

He appeared in 22 episodes of the Apple TV+ show from 2019 until 2023.

Marinelli died following his battle with stomach cancer at the age of 68 on June 22.

His wife, Jean Marinelli, confirmed that he passed away to The Hollywood Reporter, and she said that they "never had a fight" during their marriage. Meanwhile, Marinelli's agent, Julie Smith, confirmed to CNN that the General Hospital alum had been battling throat and stomach cancer for several years before his death.

Witherspoon wasn't Marinelli's only former co-star to pay tribute to him after his death. Santa Barbara star Leigh McCloskey shared a personal tribute on Facebook, in which he explained that Marinelli was admired by many people in his life.

"A sweeter man or a dearer friend you could not find than Joe Marinelli," McCloskey, 70, wrote alongside a throwback photo with Marinelli. "I knew Joe was sick and so admired his indefatigable spirit throughout what sounded like a very difficult, if not impossible, ordeal. Joe was a champion. He was a great acting partner, teacher, philosophical friend, passionate believer in people, and a storyteller extraordinaire that with laughter and depth revealed the human spirit so beautifully and in so many different ways."

In addition to his roles on The Morning Show, Santa Barbara and General Hospital, Marinelli had memorable guest starring appearances on NYPD Blue, Lethal Weapon, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,Victorious, and Desperate Housewives.
