Final days for Nissan drivers to claim $5k from ‘defect’ settlement – you can get multiple payouts by filling in form

DRIVERS of certain Nissan vehicles are running out of time to claim thousands in cash and other benefits as part of a major class action settlement.

Payouts of up to $5,000 are available for multiple repairs, but claims must be filed soon to qualify.

The settlement stems from a lawsuit over allegedly faulty transmissions in select Nissan Murano and Maxima models, impacting drivers across the US.

Consumers claim the vehicles’ continuously variable transmissions were defective and could lead to performance issues or total failure.

A CVT, or continuously variable transmission, is a type of gearbox that smoothly shifts through an endless range of gear ratios instead of fixed gears.

The suit alleges that Nissan was aware of the problem but didn’t alert buyers or lessees.

Nissan has denied any wrongdoing but agreed to a settlement to resolve the claims.

The deal covers 2015-2018 Nissan Murano and 2016-2018 Nissan Maxima vehicles with a CVT.

Eligible drivers must have purchased or leased their vehicles before April 4, 2025.

Anyone who paid for qualifying repairs after their original warranty expired but before the new one kicked in could be reimbursed.

Reimbursement can go up to $5,000 per repair if done at a non-Nissan facility.

Those who used Nissan dealers for the repairs can receive a full refund.

Drivers can submit claims for more than one repair.

There’s also a $1,500 vehicle voucher available for owners who had two or more transmission fixes.

That credit can be used toward a new Nissan or Infiniti lease or purchase.

The settlement also extends the warranty on CVT-related parts to 84 months or 84,000 miles.

    New Nissan and Infiniti lineup

Nissan announced it will be introducing several new models:

Nissan LEAF (third generation) Nissan Rogue (fourth generation) Nissan EV Nissan INFINITI FX Nissan INFINITI QX65

This includes coverage for the transmission assembly, valve body, torque converter and more.

To qualify for reimbursement, owners must provide receipts, repair orders, or credit card statements.

The claim form deadline is July 3, 2025.

Claims can also be filed within 30 days of a qualifying repair.

Those who want to opt out or object must do so by June 3, 2025.

A final approval hearing is scheduled for July 18, 2025, in the US District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee.

Only current or former owners and lessees of eligible vehicles are allowed to file a claim.

The settlement administrator did not immediately respond to a request for comment by The U.S. Sun.
