With “The Bear” back for a fourth season, the spotlight returns once again to Chicago’s vibrant culinary scene.
While watching a tense new season of the award-winning, Chicago-set show, fans and foodies may be inspired to venture into Chicago’s restaurant scene themselves. For those looking for recommendations, cast members have revealed their must-visit restaurant in the Windy City, including well-known fine dining establishments and laid-back cafes for quick bites after filming.
Here’s a collection of the cast’s favorites across the city.
Ayo Edebiri
Ayo Edebiri called local soul food restaurant Ohh Wee It Is “some of the best food of my life,’ during her acceptance speech for Best Television Female Actor for a Musical/Comedy at the Golden Globes last year. She visited the local restaurant with co-star Lionel Boyce, she added.
Jeremy Allen White
Jeremy Allen White said Bavette’s Bar & Boeuf, one of Chicago’s most popular steakhouses, and La Scarola, a local Italian institution, are his top two restaurants in Chicago on the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Award carpet.
Allen White has also been spotted dining at Birrieria Zaragoza, a family-owned restaurant rumored to be a frequent stop among the cast.
Matty Matheson
Echoing his co-star’s endorsement of Bavette’s Bar & Boeuf, Matty Matheson told Esquire that the “shellfish tower with an extra pound of crab, with a side of fries and green salad, is maybe one of my last meals for real.” Matheson added that their roast chicken and mash is “fully banana town.”
When it comes to hot dogs, Matty Matheson told Esquire that his top joint in all of Chicagoland is Gene and Jude’s in River Grove, adding that he always gets his dog with an orange pop and extra salt on the fries.
Ebon Moss-Bachrach
Ebon Moss-Bachrach joined Matheson at Shaw’s Crab House, a well-known Chicago seafood eatery. The restaurant congratulated the cast following their third season, sharing photos of the actors in an Instagram post.
“We absolutely loved having you at Shaw’s throughout filming and especially serving up The Whole King Crab Experience,” the caption read.
Lionel Boyce
To the Chicago Tribune, Lionel Boyce also praised Shaw’s Crab House, recommending the buffalo shrimp.
In the interview, Boyce also mentioned Kasama, a Filipino bakery and restaurant in East Ukrainian Village. He highlighted their breakfast sandwiches and pastries.
“They have that crazy line, but sometimes it’s worth it,” Boyce told the Tribune.
Liza Colón-Zayas
Sharing her favorite post-filming food spot in Chicago, Liza Colón-Zayas told Chicago Sun-Times she frequently orders from Ponce Restaurant in Hermosa. Specifically she praised the restaurant’s pasteles, traditional Puerto Rican tamales made with pork.
Fans are unlikely to see Colón-Zayas at the restaurant, though. She told Chicago Sun-Times she opts for delivery after long days of filming.
The cast
The entire cast visited family-owned South Side pizzeria Vito and Nick’s in March, as shown in photos shared by Vito and Nick’s on Facebook.
“It’s always a pleasure when The Bear cast comes in – Thank you Chef,” the restaurant wrote in the photo caption.
