Formula 1 kicks off its summer calendar with the Austrian Grand Prix set to ignite the title race for a second season running.
F1’s last visit to the Spielberg saw the top two in the drivers’ standings collide, with Lando Norris failing to finish after crashing.
In a remarkable parallel, the Brit is now back in Austria off the back of a DNF following a collision with his main rival for the 2025 title.
This time, his retirement was entirely of his own doing, having clashed with McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri in Canada.
It left the Aussie 22 points clear in the Drivers’ Championship, with George Russell ironically the chief beneficiary of both Norris’ crashes.
The Mercedes man won last year’s F1 Austrian Grand Prix and handed the Silver Arrows their first victory of the year in Montreal.
Reigning champion Max Verstappen, meanwhile, who crashed in Spielberg last year, remains just one penalty point away from a ban.
But Norris is on course to redeem himself after claiming pole ahead of Charles Leclerc.
When is the Austrian Grand Prix?
The race weekend at the Red Bull Ring got going on Friday, June 27, to Sunday, June 29.
Lights Out will be at 2pm on Sunday.
Sunny weather is expected in Spielberg this weekend, with temperatures set to be around 30C across all three days.
The Red Bull Ring is the shortest circuit on the current grid at just 2.7-miles with 10 corners – only seven of which require braking zones.
However, the three consecutive DRS zones from the main straight down to Turn 4 means it’s one of F1’s best for overtakes.

The race will be broadcast live on Sky Sports F1, with coverage of the Grand Prix scheduled to begin at 2:15pm on Sunday.

Norris was delighted with his lap to take pole.
He said: “My Q3 run one was good but I knew there were a few places where, if I just got it right, I could still get quite a bit more time and I did exactly that.
“I did what I planned to do and when I plan to do something and it goes right, it normally goes very, very well. So very happy. A good day and it has been a good weekend for me so far, so hopefully we can keep it up.
“It’s a long season and I still savour this moment, especially as some of my tougher moments have been in qualy. So to put in the lap like today, to put in the performance like I had, was pleasing for myself. I’m excited. I want to prove to to myself over and over again and hopefully this is the beginning of it.”
