A man and his 20-year-old son pleaded guilty Friday, June 27 to pretending to be security guards to gain entry into the homes of unsuspecting elderly victims in Anaheim and stealing their valuables.
The father, Jacinto Justin Chavez, carried out the burglaries between August and November, 2023, according to court records. His son, Jeramiah Chavez, was involved in a November burglary.
Jacinto Justin Chavez wore a badge to masquerade as a Brinks Home security employee and focused on homes with security signs outside, prosecutors said. After getting into the home, he would steal jewelry, cash and credit cards, they said.
Jacinto Justin Chavez pleaded guilty to six counts of burglary and four counts of theft from an elder adult exceeding $950, all felonies, as well as three misdemeanor counts of theft from an elder adult.
He was sentenced to seven years and four months in prison.
Jeramiah Chavez pleaded guilty to single felony counts each of burglary and theft from an elder adult exceeding $950. Jeramiah Chavez was sentenced to a year in jail and was placed on three years of formal probation. He was ordered to report to jail on Sept. 26.
