Kentucky saw its historic 15-year streak of first-round NBA Draft picks end on Wednesday night, but the Wildcats won’t be shut out of the annual draft.
During the second round of the 2025 NBA Draft on Thursday night, former Kentucky guard Koby Brea was selected with the 41st overall pick by the Golden State Warriors. Brea won’t be suiting up for the Warriors, though. He’ll begin his career with the Suns. Earlier on Thursday, Phoenix traded the No. 52 and No. 59 picks in the draft to move up to No. 41.
As part of a trade to be finalized at a later date, the Golden State Warriors have agreed in principle to trade the draft rights of Koby Brea, the No. 41 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, to the Phoenix Suns.
— Golden State Warriors (@warriors) June 27, 2025Shortly after Brea was picked, former Kentucky center Amari Williams was taken with the 46th overall pick by the Orlando Magic. Williams, however, won’t suit up for the team that technically drafted him either. The Magic dealt the pick to the Boston Celtics as part of a deal for the No. 32 pick.
Brea and Williams formed the nucleus of Mark Pope’s first Kentucky team. Williams served as the point-center in the Kentucky offensive engine while Brea played 28 minutes a night (mostly off the bench) as a marksman from downtown. Williams averaged 10.9 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 3.2 assists to go with 1.2 blocks per game. Brea averaged 11.6 points on 43.5% shooting from 3.
With the duo being drafted, Kentucky officially extends its streak of consecutive seasons with at least 1 player selected in the NBA Draft to 18. The Wildcats have had a pick in every NBA Draft since 2008.
