TARGET has quietly raised the price of a popular UK candy, just three months after it came to the US for the very first time.
The distinctively-shaped treats are a national staple across the pond, but now Americans will have to pay more for a bite.
In March, Target started selling Percy Pig Gummy Candy, sold by the company M&S.
The move marked the arrival of a British candy icon, notable for it’s pig-shaped candy face and vibrant pink color.
Percy is a star all on his own, and M&S claim that 20 million bags of the candy were sold in the last year alone.
This is the equivalent of 38 bags per minute.
The candy has been sold in the UK since 1992 and comes in raspberry, strawberry, cherry and grape flavors.
Percy also has plenty of famous fans, including music stars Harry Styles, Olivia Rodrigo and Adele.
These singers have either been seeing around snacking on Percy, or in Rodrigo‘s case, even had a bite on stage.
The Brit pig was named even named on British Vogue‘s 2008 “Hot List”.

Sharry Cramond, the food marketing director at M&S, said: “We’re thrilled to bring Percy Pig sweets to the U.S. and introduce him as a character to a whole new audience.
“Over the years, Percy has grown from a much-loved gummy into a brand with a personality of his own, complete with friends, adventures and even his own story.
“He’s more than a confectionery character; he’s a national treasure, and now we can’t wait for American fans to experience the joy and deliciousness that Percy brings.”
PRICE RISE
Starting from March 30, the candy cost Target shoppers $3.99 a bag, but that has changed.
Target has quietly increased the price of Percy to $4.49 a bag, with the cost possibly varying based on particular stores and states.
This is an increase of exactly $0.50 for American shoppers, and it is unclear if the price will go up from here.
For Brits and candy lovers alike, this isn’t just a price increase, it’s a price increase on a candy character steeped in cultural history dating back decades.
Kathryn Turner, Head of Product Development at M&S, added: “The original Percy Pig sweet is truly an iconic product that has stood the test of time with more than 30 years of history.
“The fact that he remains just as popular today as M&S’s bestselling sweet line, is a testament to everything that makes the sweet so special – the delicious Percy berry & grape-flavor combined with the perfect balance of foam and jelly and, of course, the joy he brings to so many.”
Right now, Target shoppers haven’t gotten the chance to enjoy Percy on the range of merchandise like the Brits do.
In the UK, you can find Percy on a variety of items like clothes, beauty products and household items.
