Sachin Tendulkar comes in open support of Prithvi Shaw; takes this drastic step to stun BCCI

Prithvi Shaw, back in 2014, was a 15-year-old kid who took the cricket world by storm as he was scoring runs left, right and centre. Watching his proficiency in the game and the child prodigy he was, Prithvi Shaw acquired a quick tag of 'next Sachin Tendulkar.'

The internet nowadays gets too audacious in making such claims and drawing comparisons of youngsters to former greats. However, whichever tournament Prithvi Shaw played, he was oozing fire out of his bat.

Prithvi Shaw once again rose to fame, as the batter was seen emerging with major potential when he scored a landmark 546 runs in the Harris Shield game. Four years hence, Shaw scored a maiden century on his Ranji Trophy debut.

Prithvi Shaw, in a recent turn of events, gave insights on his focus drifting away from the game owing to some bad company.

However, he insisted that Sachin Tendulkar has always had his back, and the youngster shared that the former legend still has faith in him and will continue to do so.

"Sachin sir knows about my journey. Arjun and I have been friends since we were 8-9 years old. We’ve played together, grown up together. When things go awry and you drift away, you need that mentor who can light a spark into you."

Prithvi shared that the great Sachin Tendulkar still believes in me.

Shaw said in an interview with News24, as per Tendulkar's remark to him 'Prithvi, I still believe in you, and I'll continue to do so'. Everything is possible in the next 13-14 years. So he believes in me and that means a lot,"

Prithvi Shaw's recent dip in form

After a blistering start to his domestic first-class career, Prithvi stunned all with 4556 runs playing mostly for Mumbai. Shaw has 13 first-class hundreds, of which one of the greatest innings in the Ranji Trophy history came from Prithvi Shaw's bat. He played a stunning 379-run inning.

Shaw also has an exceptional record playing for Northamptonshire in the County Championship, as he played some stunning knocks of 244 and backed it with a hundred as well.

However, ever since then, Shaw has starred in several games, having failed to score runs in the Ranji Trophy, IPL, as well as other domestic tournaments, which led him to be dropped from the Mumbai state team as well.

Prithvi Shaw's international debut and India career

Shaw made his rise in international cricket after winning the U-19 World Cup in 2018. The batter by then had already made his Ranji Trophy debut, since he scored a hundred on debut while playing for Mumbai.

Shaw never looked back after his dominant performance in the U-19 World Cup of 2018, when the captain had the likes of Shubman Gill on his side.

Shaw was picked by the Delhi Capitals in the IPL, and ever since his debut, Shaw has dominated IPL seasons with stunning hands.

Scoring constantly under pressure, Shaw's best season came in 2021, when he scored 479 runs. Shaw's highest score remains 99, as he missed a hundred back in his second season of 2019.

He had scored 1892 runs in the IPL before going unsold in the IPL auction of 2025.

Playing for India, Shaw once again amazed all with his talent. He made his Test debut against the West Indies and was the youngest player to score a hundred on debut. In his short Test career, he made 339 runs in 5 matches with a hundred, followed by two fifties.

His ODI debut came much later in 2020, as he managed 189 runs in 6 games with only one T20I inning in 2021 against Sri Lanka.
