‘It bleeds out of him’ – Collin Morikawa makes fiery Ryder Cup declaration amid Keegan Bradley headache

Whatever Keegan Bradley decides to do for the Ryder Cup, Collin Morikawa is delighted to be teaming up with him.

Bradley has been the talk of the golfing world over the last few days following his incredible Travelers Championship win.

That success, which saw him leapfrog Tommy Fleetwood on the final hole to snatch glory, has him on the brink of a feat no one has done since 1963.

The legendary Arnold Palmer was the last golfer to be both a captain and player for Team USA at the Ryder Cup.

But now Bradley, who was announced as USA’s captain last summer, could be on course to emulate him.

His victory at the Travelers put him in contention to be an automatic qualifier for the US team, moving him up to ninth in the rankings.

The top six automatically claim a spot in the Ryder Cup selection, with another six being picked by the captain.

If Bradley builds on his latest PGA Tour win, he could end up qualifying for the team or becoming the best option for a pick.

Playing is something he has stated he’d be keen to do, and potential teammate Collin Morikawa would back that decision.

Morikawa, who is set for his third Ryder Cup appearance, spoke of the impact Bradley has already had on the rest of the American stars.

He said: “Right now he’s playing as one of the best Americans and one of the best golfers in the world, winning a signature event, the consistency I think he’s brought this year.

“I’m sure there are already contingencies to be put in place because it’s not like it wasn’t a possibility that that could happen [Bradley playing]. But that’s on him.

“All I know is that as a captain already, he’s done things, and I’m not saying there’ve been bad captains. I’ve had great captains my past two Ryder Cups.

“But he cares so much about the team. He cares so much about representing the United States that it bleeds out of him and it bleeds into us. And that just motivates me more.

“I know I got kicked out of the top six after last week. I’ve got some work to do, but it’s like, man, you want to be there.

“Like you want to be wearing red, white and blue because when you have a captain like that, when you have other teammates like that, it’s, you know, you want to be there. Trust me.”

Recent comments from Bradley also back up Morikawa’s description of his desire as Team USA’s captain.

The 39-year-old has said he’s been thinking of the Ryder Cup every day that he isn’t competing, showing his passion for the event.

“For me, the only time I can escape Ryder Cup thoughts are when I’m inside the ropes,” he told a press conference.

“I’ve been doing a pretty good job this year, when I’m teeing it up in a tournament, of being a player first and when I leave then I’m the captain.”

However, Bradley could now end up combining those two responsibilities at Bethpage Black this year.

He’s yet to confirm anything though, with decisions already being made with his vice-captains ahead of the event.

Jim Furyk, Kevin Kisner, Webb Simpson and Brandt Snedeker are Team USA’s four vices for the Ryder Cup.

Bradley added: “As we get closer to the Ryder Cup things are ramping up, but every day we are working on the chat with the vice-captains.

“Now the team is really starting to take shape and we know a handful of guys who are pretty close to a mathematical lock on the team so we start thinking of partners and formats.”
