Some fans of the beloved sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond may be disappointed to hear that the series won't be getting a reboot.
Entertainment Weekly reported that Ray Romano and Patricia Heaton, who played married couple Ray and Debra Barone on the CBS sitcom which ran from 1996 to 2005, spoke about the possibility of reprising their characters during a June 23 interview with the New York Post. Romano explained a reboot won't happen because several of the show's actors, specifically Peter Boyle, Doris Roberts, and Sawyer Sweeten, have died. Boyle, who died in 2006, and Roberts, who died in 2016, played Ray's parents, Frank and Marie Barone. Meanwhile, Sweeten, who died in 2015, played one of Ray and Debra's sons, Geoffrey Barone.
"No, there won’t be a reboot. The obvious is: Peter [Boyle] and Doris [Roberts] and one of the kids, they’re no longer with us. We're all heartbroken. They're a big part of the show, the dynamic," said Romano during the interview.
He explained, "Without them, I don't know what the dynamic is."
"We love the show too much, we respect it too much to even try to do it," said the actor.
Heaton agreed with Romano, stating, "To try to do it again without the cast members that we’ve lost would be a disservice to the show."
"You shouldn't try to go back and redo something that is pretty much perfect. We need to just leave it there and let people enjoy it for what it was," continued Heaton while speaking to the New York Post.
Brad Garrett, who played Ray's brother, Robert Barone, made similar comments about doing an Everybody Loves Raymond reboot during a June 2025 interview with People magazine.
"There won't be. And I'm just saying that because that's something that Ray and Phil [Rosenthal, the show's creator] have always said," said Garrett to the publication.
He also referenced the passing of Boyle and Roberts.
"There is no show without the parents. They were the catalyst, and to do anything that would resemble that wouldn't be right to the audiences or to the loyal fan base. And it was about those two families, and you can't get around that," said Garrett during the People interview.
In addition, Garrett said he is "very grateful" to have been a part of the series.
