80s Rock Legends Celebrate 40th Anniversary of Iconic Album With Major Reissue

80s rock legends Simple Minds are celebrating the 40th anniversary of their hit album Once Upon a Time with a major reissue of the record that will include new versions of their iconic track “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” from The Breakfast Club.

The reissue will be a five-disc deluxe edition of the record, which will include the Scottish band’s original LP, as well as B-sides, single and extended mixes, and even a live album recorded in Paris in 1986, a year after the original album was released.

Some highlights for the new version of the album include three versions of “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” — the original 7" single mix, the 12" extended single, and a live version played in Rotterdam in December 1985, just two months after the album was released — as well as the track’s B-side "A Brass Band in African Chimes" in both 7" and 12" mixes.

Additionally, fans can expect instrumental versions of "Alive and Kicking" and "Sanctify Yourself" and the American remix of the 1982 single "Promised You a Miracle." The included live record, Live in the City of Light - Live From Le Zenith, Paris 1986, will feature live versions of many of the celebrated album’s songs.

In addition to the major reissue with all the extra goodies for fans, the original LP will also be available as a new red vinyl in honor of the anniversary. Both the reissue and the new red vinyl will be available on October 17, 40 years to the week of the original release.

Once Upon a Time was the band’s only American Top 10 album, which was made possible by the inclusion of “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” in John Hughes’ 1985 high school hit just months before the LP’s release. Three of the singles did make the Top 40, including "Sanctify Yourself," "All the Things She Said" and "Alive and Kicking," which peaked at No. 3.
