LSU’s College World Series win earned historic TV ratings

More than 2 million people watched LSU complete its sweep of Coastal Carolina over the weekend as the Tigers earned their eighth College World Series title.

That’s according to data released by Sports Media Watch on Tuesday. According to their report, the series averaged 2.5 million viewers across both games. That’s good enough for the most-watched CWS Finals sweep since the format moved to a 3-game series back in 2003.

Sunday’s game on ABC and ESPNU reached 2.78 million viewers, per Sports Media Watch. While it’s down slightly from last year’s Game 2 between Tennessee and Texas A&M, it’s still the sixth-largest College World Series game ever broadcast on ESPN networks per the report.

Overall, this year’s final series between LSU and Coastal Carolina is the fourth most-watched since the format change in 2003. LSU has been a participant in 3 of the top 4 most-watched final series (2009 and 2023 are the others).

LSU has now won eight baseball national titles, which ranks second all-time behind only USC (12). The Tigers have also won two of the last three crowns under head coach Jay Johnson.

The Tigers are expected to once again compete for the College World Series championship in 2026.
