Texas lands commitment from 5-star edge, former Oregon pledge

Texas earned a big-time commitment from 5-star edge Richard Wesley, who will give the Longhorns a huge boost to their defensive line in 2026.

Wesley told On3 on Sunday afternoon of his decision to commit to Texas. The 6-foot-4, 255-pound prize is from the Los Angeles area and decided to leave the West Coast for SEC country after previously committing to Oregon.

“This is for you Mom … 10000% committed,” Wesley shared to On3’s Hayes Fawcett, complete with a Hook ’em Horns emoji.

Wesley told On3 that he chose Texas over rival Texas A&M, with Oregon, USC and defending national champion Ohio State also in the mix. He was committed to Oregon from May 10-27 before removing himself from the program’s recruiting list.

Oregon was still in the mix though even after that, and Wesley took an official visit to Eugene even after removing himself from the original commitment. He was still saying that Oregon was his top choice, but that changed this weekend when Wesley made his final visit of the June recruiting period to Texas.

Texas ultimately won out, getting the 5-star talent who is the 14th-ranked player in the 2026 class, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s also the 2nd-ranked edge rusher in the class and is the 3rd-ranked player from the state of California.
